Web browser

The World Wide Web is a system of internet servers that support specially formatted documents. Web browsers are used to make it easy to access the World Wide Web. Browsers are able to display Web pages in part to an underlying Web protocol called HyperTextTransfer Protocol. HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands. It allows Web clients and Web servers to communicate with each other. When we enter a Web address in the browser, this actually sends an HTTP command to the Web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested Web page and display the information in the browser. All Web servers serving Web sites and pages support the HTTP protocol. For example the web address to reach the definition of browser on Google is: http://www.google.comlbrowser.html. As one enter the URL http://www.google.com/browser.html” into the address line of the browser, the browser breaks that web address down into three Jstinct parts. The Protocol:”http”, the server name: “www.google.com” the file name which follows the server name: .xbrowser.html”. In order for the browser to actually connect to the Web server to retrieve the information which is requested, it communicates with a name server to translate the server name into an IP address. A The web browser is then able to connect to the web server at the resolved IP address. Once the browser has connected to the web server using HTTP, the browser then reads the Hyper Text Markup Language and the data is then displayed in the Web browser. AWeb broWser is actually a software application that runs on the Internet-connected computer. It allows us to view web pages, as well as use other content and technologies such as video, graphics files, and digital certificates,. Some browsers will translate only text while others do support graphics and animation. All the web browsers are not equal, and web pages will also not be displayed the same in different browsers.

" Landslide is the most common hazard in Himachal Pradesh, which causes immense risk to life and property. Almost every year the state is affected by one or more major landslides affecting the society in many ways. Loss of life, damage of houses, roads, means of communication, agricultural land, are some of the major consequences of landslides. c) Floods:Floods are another form of natural disaster the State experiences every year. South west Monsoonal rainfall during the months of June to August is the dominant cause for triggering floods when rainfall happens to be in excess i.e. 125% or more than the normal. Fig 2.5 shows the percentage frequency of excessive rainfall and successive years of excessive rainfall during the period from 1951 to 1999. During this period the Chamba district in the north western part of the state had received highest amount of rainfall expressed as percentage of the normal with more numbers of successive years of excessive rainfall.
